Teaching objectives
At the end of the training, the participant will be able to:
List the reasons for implementing virtual I/O
Describe virtual I/O devices
Describe the function of the Virtual I/O Server (VIOS)
Configure virtual SCSI devices backed up by physical volumes, logical volumes...
Create the optical media repository, load a CD image and use it to install an AIX partition.
Describe how to configure virtual Fibre Channel devices using NPIV technology
Configure Ethernet link aggregation for load balancing and backup channel in VIOS
Configure shared Ethernet adapter failover and load balancing
Configuring vNIC failover
Perform Virtual I/O Server maintenance operations

Intended audience
Administrateurs système, personnel de support technique et partenaires commerciaux responsables de la mise en œuvre des partitions logiques sur IBM Power Systems avec des serveurs AIX.



Prerequisites
Advanced system administration experience with AIX 6 or AIX 7. Knowledge of TCP/IP strongly recommended. Logical partition administration skills on Power Systems servers.

  • Virtualization of N_Port ID.
  • Migration from physical to virtual storage.

Configuration of two VIOS servers with MPIO in the client partition. Virtual Fibre Channel adapter configuration.

  • Advanced maintenance of PowerVM systems.
Hands-on work
Manage service events. PowerVM system maintenance. Configuration of a file-backed virtual disk and virtual media repository (optional).
