With this course, you'll learn how to perform system administration in a Power Systems environment, how to use the features of PowerVM editions, and how to configure and manage logical partitions running AIX V7 or Linux using the Hardware Management Console (HMC).


Teaching objectives
At the end of the training, the participant will be able to:
Describe the important concepts involved in managing systems based on POWER processors
Describe the features of PowerVM editions
Describe the functions provided by the HMC console
Configuring and managing HMC
Describe the rules associated with resource allocation
Configure and manage LPARs using the graphical user interface (GUI) and HMC commands
Switching the Power Systems server on and off
Using the HMC console to back up and restore partition data
Perform dynamic LPAR operations (DLPAR)

Intended audience
System administrators, technical support staff and IBM Business Partners who implement LPARs on IBM Power systems.

Prerequisites
No experience of logical partitioning. General knowledge of TCP/IP is strongly recommended.
