Whether you are a VSE or an SME, which training courses should you choose in 2023? The challenges are numerous, the context remains uncertain, and developments are ever more rapid. Acceleration of digitalization and robotization, impacts of digital transformation on management and professions... Employee training is essential for SMEs. Update with Marie-Ruth Guillaume, VSE/SME referent at ORSYS.

Training in an SME

VSEs and SMEs are an essential element of the French economy. They alone account for more than half of the employees. According to the latest data from INSEE, France had more than 4 million in 2019. Essential elements of the economic fabric, they must adapt to changes linked to digital transformation and new managerial and functional challenges. What about their training needs? In 2023, training in digital technologies will of course remain essential. Other trends to follow: management, certifications, everyday professional tools…

1/ What training courses are most requested by SMEs?

The vitality and sustainability of a VSE/SME undoubtedly depends on training.

In this category, we find, on the one hand, professional training linked to support functions. This encompasses the pillars of the company, that is to say: administration, accounting, finance, management and organization. And, on the other hand, the essential training in digital technologies.

“Acquire strong management skills »

In many VSEs/SMEs, employees generally train on the job. Managers are increasingly using AFEST (on-the-job training action). During a promotion or the development of a team, employees may need to acquire managerial skills. In this case, they turn to training Becoming a manager and Managing your ex-colleagues following a promotion, which provide them with a solid foundation in management.

Furthermore, if the health crisis seems to be fading away, the economic crisis has taken over. New challenges give rise to new skills development needs, and therefore new training needs, among VSEs/SMEs. I identify five of them.

“Five main areas of training »

The first is teleworking. Although many employees have returned to face-to-face work, many maintain a hybrid organization. Some employees may therefore need support to learn new tools, new ways of organizing or managing. In this case, they can turn to training Managing your employees working remotely or in a hybrid organization.

The second is the remote management. In addition to basic managerial skills, employees then need to develop specific skills, such asfacilitation of remote meetings and mastery of videoconferencing tools such as Teams.

“Certifications are vital for ESNs »

The third is certifications. They are essential for ESNs. Retaining customers and attracting new talent remains vital. Certifications like ITIL® 4 Foundation with certification are among the most requested training courses.

The fourth is time management. Identified in previous years among VSEs/SMEs, this need remains present although losing momentum. On this question, we can say that companies adopt good habits that allow them to optimize their time. Managing your time to be more efficient is one of the most requested training courses and it proves itself!

“Restore confidence »

The fifth and last is assertiveness and assertiveness. With the uncertainty caused by repeated crises, many employees have lost self-confidence, questioning their professional priorities and their life goals. This leads them to change sector of activity, region… Others, on the contrary, return to their first loves, their projects having not come to fruition. The phenomenon of the “great resignation”, present both in France and abroad, has shaken up the economic world as we knew it. It contributes to accentuating the labor shortage observed in recent years in many SMEs. Offer employees training in the area of assertiveness, self-confidence and some stress management could therefore limit its impact.

2/ Face-to-face or remote training: should SMEs favor one format over another?

Today, 52 % training courses take place remotely, compared to 48 % face-to-face. SMEs are increasingly opting for remote classes which save them time, health security and financial support.

Indeed, in terms of financing, remote classes can be, like face-to-face classes, supported by their OPCO. This allows SMEs to access numerous training courses without affecting their cash flow. This is a real opportunity to seize!

Concretely, companies must contact their OPCO to formulate their financing requests. They can also contact their training contact at ORSYS who will help them in this regard.

To meet the expectations of VSEs/SMEs, our range of remote virtual classes, blended learning and e-learning is constantly developing.

3/ How do ORSYS training meet the expectations of SMEs?

First of all, employees and managers of VSEs or SMEs need to optimize their time spent in the company. The duration of ORSYS training is therefore particularly suited to this expectation. On average, training lasts two to three days (apart from advanced IT training). One-day training courses are also very popular. They provide quick access to information essential to the activity and therefore save time. For example :

Employees are therefore quickly back in the company to put into practice what they learned in training.

“Training reveals aptitude and the field reveals competence. »

What's more, employee training contributes greatly to the construction of the company both on a professional level and on a human level. More than ever, VSEs/SMEs need to build themselves, rebuild themselves and approach the future with more strength and determination. Employees are looking to save time in their daily professional lives. This is why they appreciate discovering tips to go faster. In other words, concrete methods and tools.

Still on a human level, training allows you to take a step back and break away from a certain isolation, especially in small structures. The training is then a stimulating and inspiring interlude thanks to an opening to other professions and other sectors of activity. It therefore promotes innovation.

Finally, saving time is also follow the right training. At ORSYS, SMEs are in contact with specialized advisors. More precisely, it is a dedicated contact who answers their questions, helps them find the training courses that exactly match their needs and obtain the best financing.
