Teaching objectives
At the end of the training, the participant will be able to:
Creating, configuring and administering virtual machines with vSphere 8
Manage virtual infrastructure updates with Update Manager
Monitor and manage virtual platform resources
Managing software replication of virtual machines

Intended audience
Operators in charge of running ESXi, ESX and/or vCenter Server servers, wishing to enhance their skills in the day-to-day management of virtual machines.

Prerequisites
Good knowledge of Windows and/or Linux administration.

  • License management.
  • vSphere inventory management.
  • Networking in vSphere 8.
  • Storage management (vStorage): different storage protocols.
  • Storage: Datastore management.

Virtual Machine (VM) creation, deployment and administration

  • VM components. vSphere license and inventory management.
  • Template creation and management.
  • Create a new VM and clone it.
  • Virtual machine snapshots.
  • Cold migration of a VM.
  • Virtual hardware management: Thin provisioning, VMDirectPath.
  • vApp, VMware VMotion, VMware Storage VMotion and VMware Enhanced VMotion.
Hands-on work
Create, configure and administer virtual machines in vSphere.

  • Manage VM resources (shares, limits, reservations).
  • Resource pools.
  • Technologies for optimizing processor and memory utilization.
  • Performance and infrastructure monitoring with alarms.
