A Strategic Perspective on AI - Responsible AI, Human Judgment, and Ethical Governance

Design, manage, and deploy trustworthy AI systems

New course

Artificial intelligence is profoundly transforming decision-making processes, organizations, and the relationships of trust between companies, their employees, and their stakeholders. Beyond technological performance, issues related to AI ethics, governance, regulatory compliance, and human judgment are becoming key factors for success. This training course provides participants with a strategic and operational understanding of responsible AI, enabling them to manage risks, build trust, and integrate the principles of ethical governance into AI projects. It provides concrete guidelines for balancing innovation, compliance, and accountability in a context marked by the entry into force of the European AI Act.

Teaching objectives
At the end of the training, the participant will be able to:
Understanding the major ethical, human, regulatory, and organizational issues related to AI
Identify the visible and invisible risks of an AI system: bias, discrimination, lack of transparency, excessive automation, and loss of judgment
Distinguishing Between Regulatory Compliance, Actual Responsibility, and Human Acceptability
Incorporating Ethics from the Very Beginning of an AI Project
Clarify the responsibilities among management, business units, data, legal, compliance, and users
Using the AI Act as a lever for trust, auditability, and responsible competitiveness
Preserving human judgment, cognitive autonomy, and decision-making quality in AI applications

Intended audience
Executives, members of executive committees, innovation leaders, digital transformation leaders, business unit leaders, AI project managers, data leaders, compliance officers, legal counsel, DPOs, CISOs, managers, consultants, and anyone involved in the design, deployment, or governance of artificial intelligence systems.

Prerequisites
None

Practical details
Theoretical concepts illustrated with examples from real-world artificial intelligence projects. Case studies, analytical exercises, role-playing scenarios, and governance simulations. AI risk analysis matrix and ethical decision-making framework. International standards and a summary of the requirements of the AI Act. Evaluation grid for human judgment and the acceptability of AI systems. Interactive quizzes and discussions among participants to share experiences.

Course schedule

1
Understanding the Fundamentals of Responsible AI and Strategic Challenges

  • Define the concepts of responsible AI, AI ethics, AI governance, and trustworthy AI
  • Identify the impacts of artificial intelligence on decision-making processes, work organization, and responsibilities
  • Distinguishing Between Regulatory Compliance, Organizational Responsibility, and Human Acceptability
  • Review major international standards: UNESCO, OECD, NIST AI RMF, and the European framework
  • Linking the principles of responsible AI to issues of trust, competitiveness, and sustainable transformation
Hands-on work
Interactive quiz and in-depth analysis of a real-world case study. Participants are invited to take a stance on various statements related to AI ethics, organizational responsibility, and digital trust. The instructor provides an in-depth analysis of a high-profile case that illustrates the challenges of responsible AI.

2
Identify and assess risks associated with AI systems

  • Identify algorithmic biases related to data, models, and usage
  • Analyze the risks of discrimination, exclusion, and violations of fundamental rights
  • Identify instances of excessive automation and a loss of human judgment
  • Identify the risks associated with Shadow AI and the uncontrolled use of generative AI
  • Assess the organizational, reputational, legal, and operational impacts of AI systems
Hands-on work
A guided demonstration of an AI risk matrix applied to a real-world use case. A quiz to help distinguish between technical, human, organizational, and regulatory risks and assess their potential impacts.

3
Integrating Ethics by Design into Artificial Intelligence Projects

  • Defining the legitimate purpose and value provided by an AI system
  • Balancing performance, fairness, robustness, explainability, and human oversight
  • Determine the necessary safeguards: human validation, alert thresholds, traceability, and auditability
  • Design mechanisms that promote algorithmic transparency and the auditability of AI systems
  • Preventing the effects of opacity and the illusion of neutrality in algorithms
Hands-on work
Presentation of a fictional AI project facing several strategic trade-offs. Through an interactive voting or polling system, participants choose the options they would prioritize in terms of performance, fairness, explainability, or human oversight. The instructor analyzes the results and explains the trade-offs.

4
Establishing Effective Governance and Leveraging the Requirements of the AI Act

  • Clarify the roles and responsibilities of management, business units, data teams, the legal department, compliance, the DPO, and the CISO
  • Establish a governance framework commensurate with the risk level of AI systems
  • Understanding the risk-based approach introduced by the European AI Act
  • Identify the obligations associated with the various categories of AI systems
  • Organize mechanisms for monitoring, escalation, documentation, and continuous improvement
Hands-on work
Demonstration of an AI governance framework inspired by real-world scenarios. Debriefing on the best practices observed.

5
Preserving Human Judgment and Building an AI That Is Acceptable in the Long Term

  • Explain the concepts of human discernment, human supervision, and cognitive sovereignty
  • Identify the risks of cognitive dependence associated with generative AI systems
  • Evaluating the human acceptability of an AI system based on criteria of understanding, trust, and contestability
  • Identify activities that can be delegated, supervised, or excluded from automation
  • Developing an approach that balances innovation, inclusion, diversity, and responsibility
Hands-on work
A guided reflection exercise based on several professional scenarios involving the use of generative AI. Participants complete a decision-making questionnaire to assess what can be automated, what requires supervision, and what must remain under human control.
