Good knowledge of Windows or Linux/Unix. Basic knowledge of SQL.

This highly practical course includes numerous exercises carried out in an Oracle environment under Unix.

Introduction

  • Oracle environment.
  • File types used. Valid processes. Tablespaces. Dictionary.
  • Operational tasks: instance monitoring, error message recovery, etc.
  • Tools required. SQL overview. Script validation.
  • Using SQL*Plus in operations. Recovering DB structures.

User concept

  • User characteristics. Retrieve login names, privileges and roles.
  • Unlock a user account. Stop a blocked connection. Lock monitoring.
  • Privileged users. SYS and SYSTEM.
  • Use of sysoper and sysdba groups.

Managing storage structures

  • OFA architecture.
  • Tablespaces. Find database storage structures and occupancy rates.
  • ROLLBACK/UNDO segments. Identify and monitor these segments.

Starting and stopping the database

  • Database reports. How to use the various reports.
  • Startup. Files used at startup. Problem detection. Automatic procedures.
  • Shutdown. Monitoring of established connections.

Network access

  • For server and clients. Enable SQL*Net/Net layer on server.
  • Configuration files. Startup scripts. Connection test.

Backups and restores

  • Types of backup. Cold database backup. Archive mode. Archive mode presence test.
  • Files to save for a hot backup. Hot backup.
  • Recovery of error messages during database activation.
  • Identify/restore corrupted files. RECOVER function.

Import/export and SQL*Loader functions

  • EXPORT to save a schema or database. Table loading.
  • Message files. Load processing. Constraints.

Oracle specificities and evolutions

  • Performance. Simplified maintenance. Security. Oracle Restart.
  • Data Recovery Advisor and RMAN enhancements. Database migration.
