This course introduces you to the approach and tools for describing business processes and functional architecture, with a view to producing a relevant and comprehensible expression of requirements.


Teaching objectives
At the end of the training, the participant will be able to:
Understanding the requirements expression phase in a classic and agile project
Describing a business process and business data
Describe the functional architecture of the system to be implemented
Estimating development costs
Using UML to express requirements

Intended audience
Project owners, project management assistants, project managers, analysts, designers and anyone involved in an IT project.

No special knowledge required.

Expressing needs in a project

  • Opportunity, feasibility, specifications. Validation of needs/specifications.
  • Definition of the various components of the information system. Experimentation and pilot site.
  • Stakeholders : MOA/MOE, users, decision-makers, experts, lawyers...

Diagnosis of existing facilities

  • The origin of the need: how do you go from an idea to a project?
  • Definition of scope, exchanges and players.
  • Description of processes and activities.
  • Use cases. Flotsam, scenarios. Data, entities, associations. UML class diagrams.
  • Diagnosis. Analysis of processes and associated organization, data analysis.
Hands-on work
Represent the scope of a project. Describe a process. Identify its information blocks.

System reconfiguration

  • Process and data reconfiguration axes. The "diabolical quadrilateral".
  • Description of scenarios for a selection file. Selection criteria: ROI, VMA.
  • Non-economic selection criteria.
Hands-on work
Calculation of a VMA for two proposed scenarios.

Formalization of requirements - Application development

  • Description of the functional architecture of the future application.
  • Definition of product quality requirements.
  • Typical outline of a development specification.
Hands-on work
Describe functionalities based on a business process. Search for quality metrics.

Estimated development costs

  • Delphi method.
  • Function point method for estimating the development of system components.
  • Proportional distribution.
Exercise
Implementation of function points.

Expression of need for software integration

  • Definition of software selection criteria.
  • Description of software parameterization choices.
  • Software package integration specifications.

Agile organization of requirements expression

  • Expressing needs using Agile methods.
  • JRP: a participative approach in session. eXtreme Programming: the customer on site.

During the presentation and the case studies, it was hard to keep track of where you were in the material. However, I didn't come away with one or two methods for writing specifications.
