Teaching objectives
At the end of the training, the participant will be able to:
Update your knowledge of pathology and disease progression
Care and support for patients and their families
Integrating patients' behavioral problems into day-to-day management
Providing significant help to relatives by proposing concrete, coherent solutions

Alternating theoretical and practical input, role-playing and clinical case studies.

Course schedule

Alzheimer's disease and its main relational difficulties

  • Understanding the disease and its memory disorders.
  • Epidemiology, incidence, prevalence, triggering factors.
  • Screening, etiology, physiopathology.
  • Follow the recommendations of the neurodegenerative diseases plan and the 2020 roadmap.
  • Anticipate the progression of dementia and the different types of care available.
  • Diagnosing the disease.
Hands-on work
Discussions on everyday problems. Group work on manifestations of the disease. Analysis of specific cases.

Pain mechanisms in patient-caregiver communication

  • The concept of pain and its manifestations without words.
  • Distinguish between different evaluation scales.
Hands-on work
Role-playing. Debriefing.

Care and management

  • Choose the right path for the patient and ensure optimal care.
  • Implement a care action plan adapted to patients and in line with the recommendations of the Haute Autorité de santé.
  • Introduce the support approach on a daily basis.
  • Identify communication barriers and establish effective communication.
  • Apply assessment scales according to the situation encountered.
Hands-on work
Reflection on the patient pathway to ensure optimal care. Debriefing. Role-playing exercises and analysis of concrete cases of day-to-day support. Group work on care situations based on participants' own practices. Activity based on assessment scales.

Monitoring and emergency care

  • Dealing with emergencies and refusal of care.
  • Anticipating the ethical issues raised by the disease.
  • Prevent the main complications and their consequences: running away, falls, incontinence, malnutrition, dehydration, etc.

  • Identify the profile of caregivers and the consequences for their support.
  • Understanding the disruption of family dynamics.

  • Understand the importance and role of the discussion group.
