Course schedule

1
Introduction to Claude Code

  • What is a development agent?
  • Claude Code's Position in the Ecosystem of AI Tools for Developers.
  • Architecture and Operation: The Claude Model, Context, and Available Tools.
  • Use cases: understanding existing code, refactoring, debugging, code generation, documentation, testing.
  • Limitations, awareness of code and data confidentiality, cost calculations.

    Activités pédagogiques

Hands-on work
Explore Claude Code's capabilities on an existing project: codebase analysis, bug identification, and suggestions for improvement.

2
Installation and Configuration

  • System Requirements and Authentication.
  • Installation via npm and initial configuration.
  • Management of API keys and pricing plans.
  • Configuring the settings file and environment variables.
  • Customization using CLAUDE.md files (project and user).
  • Managing permissions and approval workflows.

    Activités pédagogiques

Hands-on work
Install Claude Code, set up its environment, and create a CLAUDE.md file tailored to a development project.

3
Commands and Interaction Methods

  • The REPL interactive mode and its slash commands.
  • One-shot mode for one-time tasks.
  • Pipe mode for integration with other Unix tools.
  • Browsing the history and managing conversations.
  • Essential commands: /init, /compact, /clear, /memory, /model.
  • Reading and manipulating files, executing commands

    Activités pédagogiques

Hands-on work
Perform a series of development tasks using various interaction modes: bug fixes, feature additions, and test generation.

4
The Art of Prompting for Development

  • Principles for Writing Effective Code Prompts.
  • Provide the necessary context: project structure, agreements, and constraints.
  • Break down complex tasks into steps.
  • Use images and screenshots to provide visual context.
  • Iterate and refine the results.
  • Reusable prompt templates.

    Activités pédagogiques

Hands-on work
Write and test different prompts for the same development task. Compare the results and identify best practices.

5
Advanced Development Workflows

  • Project Management with Claude Code: From Concept to Implementation.
  • Large-scale refactoring of legacy code.
  • Creation and maintenance of technical documentation.
  • Creating and running automated tests.
  • Code reviews and pull request analysis.
  • Assisted debugging and troubleshooting complex issues.

    Activités pédagogiques

Hands-on work
Take a legacy project and perform a complete refactoring using Claude Code: improve the structure, add tests, and generate documentation.

6
Automation and CI/CD Integration

  • Using Claude Code in headless, non-interactive mode.
  • Integration with GitHub Actions.
  • Automation of code reviews.
  • Creating custom pre-commit hooks.
  • Secret Management and Security in a CI Environment.

    Activités pédagogiques

Hands-on work
Set up a GitHub Actions workflow using Claude Code to automate code reviews and documentation generation for each pull request.

7
Model Context Protocol (MCP) Architecture

  • Understanding the MCP protocol and its role.
  • Available MCP servers: file systems, databases, third-party APIs.
  • Configuring MCP Servers in Claude Code.
  • Expand Claude Code's capabilities with custom tools.
  • Use cases: integration with Postgres, Puppeteer, and internal tools.

    Activités pédagogiques

Hands-on work
Configure an MCP server to connect Claude Code to a database and perform queries using natural language.

8
Best Practices and Optimization

  • Cost Management: Monitoring Usage, Optimizing Tokens.
  • Determine the most cost-effective prompt architecture for a given use case.
  • Security: permissions, sensitive data, action auditing.
  • Work Organization: When to Use Claude Code vs. Manual Coding.
  • Teamwork: sharing configurations, common guidelines.
  • Debugging by Claude Code: logs, verbose mode, troubleshooting.
  • Monitoring and Development of the Tool.

    Activités pédagogiques

  • Audit an existing project: analyze energy consumption, identify potential optimizations, and establish team guidelines for using Claude Code.
