Course schedule

1
Understanding the Benefits of Generative AI in Industrial Operations

  • Define the fundamental principles of generative AI and large language models (LLMs)
  • There are three main categories of AI applications: text-generation AI, document analysis AI, and operational support AI
  • Analyze use cases applicable to preventive, corrective, and condition-based maintenance
  • Identify operational benefits: reduced diagnostic time, improved documentation management, support for technicians
  • Assessing the Current Limitations of AI: Hallucinations, Reliability of Responses, Cybersecurity, and Industrial Data Privacy
Hands-on work
Group analysis of use cases drawn from real-world industrial environments. Collaborative workshop in small groups aimed at mapping maintenance activities that could benefit from AI. Comparative study of several recent generative AI tools. Guided simulation: identification of potential benefits and associated risks in a field maintenance context.

2
Structuring Effective Requests for Diagnostics and Technical Support

  • Develop prompts tailored to the needs of maintenance and operations teams
  • Breaking down a technical problem to arrive at actionable answers
  • Using AI to analyze failure symptoms and propose diagnostic hypotheses
  • Generate troubleshooting procedures, checklists, and response plans
  • Improving the Quality of Responses Through Contextualization and Iteration Techniques
Hands-on work
Individual exercises in prompt design applied to simulated industrial incidents. Workshop in pairs: creation of conversational assistants tailored to a specific piece of equipment or production line. Case studies focusing on scenarios involving mechanical, electrical, and automated failures. Comparison of results obtained using different formulation methods. Group debriefing on best practices for ensuring the reliability of responses.

3
Leveraging AI for Documentation and Knowledge Management

  • Generate structured and actionable service reports
  • Develop AI-assisted technical procedures, standard operating procedures, and quick-reference guides
  • Compile technical reports, maintenance histories, and manufacturer documents
  • Organize the documentation of field knowledge and lessons learned
  • Using AI to Make It Easier to Find Information in a Technical Database
Hands-on work
Hands-on workshop based on real or simulated service reports and technical documents. Individual exercises in developing and refining maintenance procedures. Group role-playing: creation of a simplified knowledge base powered by AI. Practical case study involving the automatic synthesis of a failure history to identify trends and corrective actions.

4
Using AI as an Operational Field Assistant

  • Using AI to Plan a Maintenance Task
  • Use multimodal AI tools to analyze images, electrical diagrams, screenshots of user interfaces, or photos of defects
  • Help field teams understand complex technical documentation
  • Facilitate the sharing of instructions and communication among teams
  • Using AI to Support Less Experienced Technicians
  • Integrate AI into existing operational processes (CMMS, work orders, tracking forms) without disrupting established business practices
Hands-on work
Group role-playing exercises based on comprehensive field service scenarios (from ticket intake to case closure). Exercises in analyzing technical diagrams, alarm messages, and manufacturer documentation using multimodal AI tools. Role-playing exercises between technicians and supervisors using AI as a support and communication tool. Collaborative workshop on preparing for a complete service call: diagnosis, procedure, communication, and reporting.

5
5. Regulate the use of AI and deploy it in an industrial environment

  • Identify the security, privacy, and compliance issues associated with the use of AI
  • Defining Best Practices for Using AI Tools in Industrial Companies
  • Evaluate the relevance and reliability of the responses generated by AI
  • Developing a phased approach to integrating AI into maintenance and operations activities
  • Measuring operational gains and related performance metrics
  • Understanding the drivers of resistance to change among field teams and identifying the factors that promote adoption
Hands-on work
Group case study on the risks associated with the use of sensitive data in AI tools. Breakout-session workshop: development of an AI best-practices charter for a maintenance department. Creation of a deployment action plan tailored to the participants’ environment. Oral presentation and group discussion on operational priorities and success factors.
