Teaching objectives
At the end of the training, the participant will be able to:
Follow the steps involved in creating a Framework Manager project
Select a data source and import the tables required to create a "package".
Prepare and test metadata to be used in reports
Publish and define package security
Preparing DMR dimensional packages

Intended audience
IT project managers, consultants or technical administrators.

Prerequisites
Knowledge of relational databases (tables, SQL, joins and modeling). Knowledge of Report Studio, Cognos 11 BI reporting tool.

Introduction to Framework Manager and Cognos 11 BI tools

  • Overview of the architecture and the various studios.
  • Steps involved in creating a Framework Manager project.
  • Database structure and object definition.
  • Establish the differences between transactional databases and reporting.
  • Consideration of best practices.
Storyboarding workshops
Multiple-choice questions are asked.

Creating a Framework Manager project file

  • Discover the interface and different objects.
  • Create a new data source and import metadata.
  • Définir les différentes couches du fichier projet.
Exercise
Questions à choix multiples. Création d'un nouveau projet : choisir sa source de données, importer les tables dans la couche physique.

Preparing metadata

  • Import and create query subjects.
  • Modify query element properties.
  • Modify and define relationships between query subjects and their cardinalities.
  • Create specific calculations.
  • Define parameter tables and apply them in macros. Define filters.
Exercise
Définir les propriétés des éléments de requête. Usage et agrégation. Relations entre tables. Modifier un sujet de requête. Calcul d'expression de plusieurs éléments de requête. Tester la requête.

Preparing and publishing packages

  • Create a package from business layers.
  • Prepare combined query topics and dimensional views.
  • Specify determinants.
Exercise
Create a package. Include business layer. Publish to portal.

Prepare DMR dimensional packages

  • Object definition: dimensions, hierarchies and attributes.
  • Create measures and apply scope.
Exercise
Create a multidimensional model. Define dimensions and their levels. Define measures.

Implementing security

  • Cognos security principles.
  • Secure access to the package.
  • Define access to objects and data.
Exercise
Apply security to a package. Define rights on objects and data.

OLAP cube management

  • Creation of a Framework Manager project using an OLAP source (online analytical processing).
  • Differences between dimensional framework and OLAP cube.
PARTICIPANTS
IT project managers, consultants or technical administrators.

PREREQUISITES
Knowledge of relational databases (tables, SQL, joins and modeling). Knowledge of Report Studio, Cognos 11 BI reporting tool.

TRAINER QUALIFICATIONS
The experts leading the training are specialists in the covered subjects. They have been approved by our instructional teams for both their professional knowledge and their teaching ability, for each course they teach. They have at least five to ten years of experience in their field and hold (or have held) decision-making positions in companies.

ASSESSMENT TERMS
The trainer evaluates each participant’s academic progress throughout the training using multiple choice, scenarios, hands-on work and more.
Participants also complete a placement test before and after the course to measure the skills they’ve developed.

TEACHING AIDS AND TECHNICAL RESOURCES
• The main teaching aids and instructional methods used in the training are audiovisual aids, documentation and course material, hands-on application exercises and corrected exercises for practical training courses, case studies and coverage of real cases for training seminars.
• At the end of each course or seminar, ORSYS provides participants with a course evaluation questionnaire that is analysed by our instructional teams.
• A check-in sheet for each half-day of attendance is provided at the end of the training, along with a course completion certificate if the trainee attended the entire session.

TERMS AND DEADLINES
Registration must be completed 24 hours before the start of the training.
