On completion of the course, learners will be able to take digital accessibility into account in the development of web and mobile applications.


Teaching objectives
At the end of the training, the participant will be able to:
Understanding the different types of disability
Understand the challenges and benefits of accessibility standards
Knowing the laws and technical reference standards
Acquire a basic vocabulary for dialogue with professionals in the field
Identify problems encountered by people with disabilities and find appropriate solutions
Understanding the problems faced by people with disabilities

Intended audience
Anyone wishing to gain a better understanding of digital accessibility.

This course is punctuated by demonstrations and group discussion sessions.

Introduction

  • Definition of digital accessibility.
  • Trends in accessibility in the public and private sectors.
  • Historical evolution of the notion of disability and accessibility.
  • Inclusion as a human right at the UN.
  • The impact of inaccessibility on the daily lives of disabled people.
  • Fields of application: keyboard navigation, forms, color contrast, media, page structure.

Raising awareness of the difficulties faced by disabled people

  • Raising awareness of different types of disability.
  • Navigation and consultation difficulties encountered by people with disabilities.
  • Overview of display customization functions and tools.
Demonstration
Demonstrations of technical navigation aids, by type of disability.

Regulatory framework in France and abroad

  • Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
  • France's Disability Act of 2005.
  • 2018 update of article 47 of the Disability Act.
  • The Digital Accessibility Decree of July 24, 2019.
  • Obligations for public or private bodies entrusted with a public service mission.

Technical accessibility standards

  • The standards of W3C, the web standardization body, and their French versions.
  • The WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) and its WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) version 2.1.
  • RGAA v4 (référentiel général d'amélioration de l'accessibilité), the French application of WCAG.
  • The AccessiWeb standard, its method and certification.

I would have liked more interactivity and discussion.

On a one-day course, the morning part is too long for the interest it represents in understanding the RGAA. The afternoon was better calibrated. The course would benefit from remaining focused on the practical cases seen in the afternoon. Some of the videos were too long, and the maps of what to do and what not to do were interesting and would have deserved more time and perspective.
