Teaching objectives
At the end of the training, the participant will be able to:
Creating a page skeleton with CSS
Formatting styles for text treatments
Stylizing visual effects (drop shadows, reflections, gradients, etc.)
Managing interactivity with JavaScript
Improve form interactivity

Intended audience
This course is aimed at all web designers, webmasters and graphic artists wishing to acquire a good knowledge of web formatting.

Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of HTML.

  • Client/server architecture. Browsers.
  • Client-side languages XML, (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
  • The Semantic Web. Accessibility. Encoding.

CSS basics

  • The benefits of style sheets.
  • The different versions of CSS (CSS1, CSS2, CSS3).
  • CSS cascade. CSS sheet storage.
  • Browser support.
  • Selector types (id, class and tags).
  • Priority order. Properties.
  • Units of measurement (em, px, pt...).
  • Colors (RGB versus basic).
Hands-on work
Style creation and management. Relative unit management. Adaptation to media types.

Boxes and blocks

  • Block versus inline tags.
  • CSS flow. Margins (margin, padding).
  • In-flow positioning (relative, floating), out-of-flow positioning (absolute, fixed).
  • z-index (altitude). The box-sizing property. Formatting contexts.
  • Backgrounds and borders (colors, transparency, rounded corners, drop shadows).
  • Content (scrolling).
  • Special case of paintings.
Hands-on work
Creation of a page skeleton (positioning by div).

  • Font modification (sizes, fonts, colors, etc.).
  • Text alignment.
  • Pseudo-classes.
  • Visual effects (flashing, etc.).
  • Horizontal and vertical lists and menus.
