Hands-on work
The many progressive exercises and case studies will be carried out on a network of RedHat Linux servers.
Course schedule
1 Installation, X server and packages
- What's new in Red Hat Entreprise Linux 7 and 8.
- Type of installation. Typical problems and solutions.
- Patches and updates. Subscribe to Red Hat Network.
- Compiling and installing source or binary packages. Use of Yum.
- Setting up Xorg.
- The different office managers.
Hands-on work
Install and configure Linux Red Hat.
2 Standard administration
- User and group management.
- Shadowutils: commands and user account configuration files, /etc/skel/* templates. Role of NSS, PAM.
- Tree backup tools, block-by-block, synchronization.
- Startup: boot, grub, kernel. Init/Upstart.
- Startup scripts, customization. Service management.
- Login. System shutdown.
Hands-on work
Manage startup, users and groups.
3 Managing disks and other peripherals
- Disk types and partitioning. USB storage media. RAID and LVM and other types.
- Primary and secondary swap.
- File systems. Formatting, tuning and maintenance.
- Mounting: mount, automonitor and /etc/fstab file.
- Device management. Modules. Special files, from mknod to Udev.

Disk management.
4 Core, performance and tuning
- Modify or build a new core?
- What's new in Kernel 3.x. Compilation and installation procedure.
- Performance management.
- Resources to monitor. Disk space and quota management. Monitoring tools.
- Traces. System audit.
- Trace acquisition and centralization.

Manage performance. Use standard analysis tools.
5 Integration into the existing network
- Configure network interfaces under Linux.
- Client configuration : IP and name resolution.
- Network security.
- The Xinetd super-server.
- NetFilter and iptables: packet filtering.

6 Network services presentation
- Apache HTTP Server. Architecture. Getting started.
- Samba file server. Installation and startup. Resource sharing with Windows.

They have at least five to ten years of experience in their field and hold (or have held) decision-making positions in companies.
ASSESSMENT TERMS
The trainer evaluates each participant’s academic progress throughout the training using multiple choice, scenarios, hands-on work and more.
Participants also complete a placement test before and after the course to measure the skills they’ve developed.
TERMS AND DEADLINES
Registration must be completed 24 hours before the start of the training.
