Intended audience
System administrators and database administrators.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of SQL required, or knowledge equivalent to that acquired in the course "SQL for MySQL" (Ref. MYP).
Course schedule
1 MariaDB introduction and installation
- Versions and license types.
- MariaDB tools (client and administration).
- Server setup: configuration files and parameters.
- Start/Stop.
- Facilities (binary, from sources).
Hands-on work
Install MariaDB on Linux/Windows and use client and administration tools.
2 MariaDB database objects
- Table types (MyISAM/Aria, XtraDB/InnoDB, FederatedX, Cassandra, SphinxSE, HandlerSocket...).
- Modification of table definition.
- Index and view management.
- Base information_schema and performance_schema.
Hands-on work
Create and use views. Create and modify table definitions. Create indexes. Use catalog databases.
3 Connections, access rights, security
- User authentication.
- MariaDB system databases and their contents.
- Manage users and their privileges.
- Rights to views and stored processes.
- Using SSL.
Hands-on work
Complete post-installation security. Create MariaDB accounts. MariaDB security management.
4 Storage engines and plug-ins
- Engines: MyISAM/Aria, XtraDB/InnoDB, Memory, Archive CSV, FederatedX, Blackhole, CassandraSE, SphinxSE, HandlerSocket.
- XtraDB/InnoDB architecture and configuration.
- Transactional operation of the XtraDB/InnoDB engine.
- Locking tables.
- MyISAM/Aria query cache and index cache.
Hands-on work
Change XtraDB/InnoDB settings. Implementation of transactions.
5 MariaDB server maintenance
- Session status (variables, command "show status"), forced session termination.
- Loading : LOAD DATA, myimport, SELECT INTO OUTFILE, MySQLdump.
- Logs (general, errors, slow queries, etc.).
- Backup strategies.
- Backup methods and tools available.
- Incremental backup and recovery.
- Statistics update and defragmentation.
Hands-on work
Log activation. Load/unload tools. Backups and restores with "MySQLdump". Using binary logs. Incremental backup. Incremental recovery.

The experts leading the training are specialists in the covered subjects. They have been approved by our instructional teams for both their professional knowledge and their teaching ability, for each course they teach. They have at least five to ten years of experience in their field and hold (or have held) decision-making positions in companies.
ASSESSMENT TERMS
The trainer evaluates each participant’s academic progress throughout the training using multiple choice, scenarios, hands-on work and more.
Participants also complete a placement test before and after the course to measure the skills they’ve developed.
TERMS AND DEADLINES
Registration must be completed 24 hours before the start of the training.
