Intended audience
This course is aimed at system administrators and architects who want to get to grips with the VMware vSAN software suite quickly.
Prerequisites
Good knowledge of VMware vSphere 6.x administration or equivalent to the VMware vSphere 6.5, installation, configuration and administration course (ref. HVM) or ref. MWI for version 6.

1 Storage
- Storage technologies.
- Magnetic and flash storage devices.
- Different types of storage architectures.
- vSAN architecture and components.
- Hybrid and Full Flash vSAN architectures.
- vSAN's space-efficiency features.
2 vSAN configuration
- Network prerequisites for configuring vSAN.
- Configure network for vSAN, vSAN cluster.
- Test and validate vSAN configuration and functionality.
Hands-on work
Configure vSAN network components and a vSAN cluster.
3 vSAN and virtual machines
- How storage policies work with vSAN.
- Define and create a virtual machine storage policy.
- Apply and modify "storage policies" for virtual machines.
- vsanSparse snapshot format.
- Issues linked to vSanSparse snapshots.
Hands-on work
Configure storage strategies for virtual machines.
4 Management and administration
- Manage hardware storage devices.
- Manage hardware device failures.
- Identify vCenter Server alarms for vSAN events.
- Configure fault domains.
- Upgrade to vSAN 8.
Hands-on work
Improve management tasks. Create and manage nested defect domains.
5 Two-node and extended clusters
- Architecture of extended clusters and two-node clusters.
- Create an extended cluster from the two-node configuration.
- Configure vSphere HA and vSphere DRS for an extended cluster.
- Failover scenarios for extended clusters.
Hands-on work
Set up an extended cluster and observe failover scenarios.
6 Monitoring and troubleshooting
- Use the vSphere Web Client to detect problems.
- Use vSAN Health Service to check health and performance.
- Use ESXi commands to monitor the vSAN environment.
- Control vSAN with the vSphere Ruby console.
Hands-on work
Use the vSAN service to monitor operation and performance.
7 Deployment design
- vSAN design considerations.
- Design and size vSAN clusters.
- Design and sizing tools for vSAN.

They have been approved by our instructional teams for both their professional knowledge and their teaching ability, for each course they teach. They have at least five to ten years of experience in their field and hold (or have held) decision-making positions in companies.
ASSESSMENT TERMS
The trainer evaluates each participant’s academic progress throughout the training using multiple choice, scenarios, hands-on work and more.
Participants also complete a placement test before and after the course to measure the skills they’ve developed.

Registration must be completed 24 hours before the start of the training.
